Located in 3 of the naves of the former Kéroman submarine base in Lorient, at the heart of the ocean racing centre, Lorima has a workshop area of 7,700m², spread over 3 floors. The configuration of the site lends itself perfectly to the handling of very large masts (with some spaces measuring up to 100 metres in length).
Some projects require special facilities to facilitate the handling of very large parts. A dedicated workshop has been set up at Lorima to manufacture the two masts of Grain de Sail II, measuring 44 meters for the foremast and 48 meters for the aft mast and weighing almost 15 tonnes in total. These masts represent 9 months’ work, involving around fifty employees and subcontractors. Everyone played a crucial role in bringing this exceptional project to fruition.
With its 2 carbon masts and 52 metres in length, the cargo sailboat Grain de Sail II is now crossing the Atlantic almost exclusively under sail, in less than two weeks, with almost 350 tonnes of cargo on board. This unique project, to which Lorima is proud to contribute, offers a new solution for carbon-free maritime freight.
